Would there be any interest in having a recurring monthly "competition" ?
Timezones might get in the way, but I'm thinking a mini version of Alex's Tiltyard open, on something like every 1st Saturday of the month. Doesn't have to be formal, but I think might be good with live chat.

That sounds like it could be fun!

Sure, I'd be interested.
If I recall correctly, this should be easy with tiltyard (perhaps Alex/Sam could comment). As long a people just start their players and tick the box, then they would be automatically entered.

Yeah, the preparations for the tournament on my end are essentially preparing any new games and writing a YAML file defining the tournament structure. If the tournament just uses existing games, it should be pretty straightforward to configure. I'd be happy to collaborate with someone on some of these mini-tournaments so more people know how to run these things. There are also a few steps Sam currently has to take on his side to have Tiltyard correctly configured. I'm sure he'll look into automating them if tournaments are going to be run more often. (There are examples of the tournament specification files here, if anyone's interested: github.com/AlexLandau/ggp-tournament/tree/master/testSpecs)

I am an idiot. I managed to miss Alex's mail describing how to run the tournament. So now I've got that, I'm going to aim for Saturday 4th March. It'll need to be when I'm in, so I'm going to choose 8-11pm UTC (unless I get too many objections, in which case, I'll do some sort of doodle poll or something).
First up, just because I'd like a "theme", I'm going for chess-based games. Swiss stylee.

Er, great organisation, Ed, well done. It's possible people might need to know how to enter.
In the short term, post here if you are interested.
Nearer the time I'll need people to register and make sure they've set the right settings on tiltyard.

Thanks SteadyEddie for organising. I'll be entering some player - no idea what. Likely just a mcts player (which is terrible at chess like games), maybe scaled up a bit.
Hope to see more players out there!

Not too many replies. If you're still up for it, I'll turn up with SE scaled up to the max, and instead of having an actual tournament, I'll just kick off some games using the base Server, and we can chat about what we've been up to in the slack channel (or tlk possibly). If anyone else shows up in the chat, I can include them.

A late disaster in my codebase meant I rocked up with SteadyEddie from the Tiltyard open (running on 64 cores), which did well. Sadly it seems Richard has done a even better job with Gurgeh, and the March clubnight was something of a one way street, and keeping scores was fairly meaningless, but was probably 15-3 or something.
So, that sets a new benchmark for raw MCTS players, and I suppose we can call it a success.
Slack+Zoom seemed to be good enough to handle the comms.
Next clubnight is 1 April. I'll say 7-10pm UTC (8-11pm BST for my/Richard's benefit). I'll have pimped SteadyEddie to see if I can't get back on something like an equal footing. Feel free to turn up and get smashed up by Gurgeh too.

Sorry I couldn't make it last time (out of town); but I enjoyed being able to read the discussion on Slack afterwards. Hopefully I'll be free for the next one.

Plan to be good to go tomorrow at 7-9pm UTC (8-10pm BST). 3 hours was a bit long last time.
I'll post the zoom meeting to slack. Exchange IPs in the private channels there.
