Hi everyone,
As mentioned before, I've been doing some planning for running a competition. Right now it looks like it would probably be in November or December; I'd like to pick a date and time with some time to spare, so I can get the word out and people can plan accordingly. Note that the only requirement to enter would be having the player working successfully on Tiltyard; I'm hoping to get as many participants as possible.
The likely format would be Swiss-inspired for the main rounds, with single-elimination semifinals and finals for the top four competitors. Match scheduling will be automated, so the tournament would proceed with little or no human intervention; this means there wouldn't be as much leeway for fixing technical hiccups on the players' end as the IGGPC has sometimes offered.
I'm looking for feedback on possible times from anyone interesting in participating:
1) Your time zone
2) Rough range of ideal times of day (either local time zone or UTC, please specify)
3) Preference for weekend vs. non-weekend (or other day-of-week preferences)
4) Would you be comfortable leaving your player to run unattended?
5) Are you interested in watching the competition matches as they proceed?
6) Do you have a preference for watching the beginning vs. the end of the main rounds vs. the finals?
7) Any dates you know you would not be able to participate? (Major US holidays of Nov. 26, Dec. 24/25/31 are already out)
You can post your responses here or send them to alandau@cs.stanford.edu.
This might be more information than I can process and optimize completely, but it should give me some insights and starting points for setting a schedule for this and future tournaments.
