I spent an hour yesterday removing spam messages, banning accounts, IP addresses, etc.. Overnight the same problem has happened again. Sadly, boards.net doesn't seem up to the task of preventing spam, nor do "global moderators" get the tools to do so efficiently. I'm not sure if there's a more powerful level of admin. If there is, they'll need to address the problem, presumably by setting up posting restrictions. If not, I'm leaving boards.net.
Last time I suggested moving elsewhere, most people wanted to remain here. If that's still the case, no worries. If you would like to move this forum elsewhere, I'm happy to be an admin elsewhere. Feel free to email me. (Several people here have my email address.)
Thanks,
Andrew

Yes, there's an admin level of privileges past global moderator, which should have access to settings restricting account creation and posting. I believe currently only Bertrand has this level of privileges.

I finally installed Selenium IDE and learned enough to script the several clicks per page needed to delete the massive backlog of spam. That means one click to run a script that deletes 10 pages of threads in just under a minute; then I just needed a few hours of mental downtime to keep it up. Summer Games Done Quick (on a hot weekend day) was a fine opportunity.
For the future: It looks like they target the board when there hasn't been much activity lately. If people post more, I suspect there will be less spam.
