Arimaa is a game that was created specifically to be more difficult for computers to play than humans. Since 2004, there has been a yearly human/computer challenge to evaluate the progression of AI relative to human abilities. A program called Sharp won in its first time participating in the challenge, earlier this year (2015). It was written by David Wu, who apparently started working on Sharp as an undergraduate thesis project at Harvard. He has a paper on the winning version of the bot that was published in the ICGA journal: icosahedral.net/downloads/djwu2015arimaa_color.pdf

I watched the games when this happened. Nice achievement. Do you know if anyone's working on a GDL version of Arimaa?
